ABOUT LUAS

The establishment of the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) started from a Cabinet directive in July 1997 which asked the Ministry of Agriculture, then the Selangor State Government to study the proposal to establish a body to manage rivers and water resources in an integrated manner by taking Sungai Selangor as a pilot project and Sungai “ Thames ”in the United Kingdom as an implementing model. In this regard, the coordination of roles and jurisdiction between state and federal government agencies has been made to ensure that there is no duplication of functions and responsibilities as well as to smooth the running of this body. Then LUAS was established with the approval of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly which convened on April 9, 1999. The establishment of LUAS is complemented by an enactment, the Selangor Water Management Board Enactment 1999.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MoU) SIGNING CEREMONY FOR COOPERATION IN THE SHARING OF HYDROLOGICAL DATA AND WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT INFORMATION BETWEEN SELANGOR WATER MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY (LUAS) AND DEPARTMENT OF IRRIGATION AND DRAINAGE MALAYSIA (JPS)

In line with various initiatives implemented by the Selangor State Government to ensure that the quality and quantity of raw water resources can be treated and supplied to the residents of Selangor and Klang Valley as well as Putrajaya, LUAS has taken the initiative by establishing smart collaborations with government agencies and stakeholders in the management and monitoring of water resources including its development and conservation.us initiatives implemented by the Selangor State Government to ensure that the quality and quantity of raw water resources can be treated and supplied to the residents of Selangor and Klang Valley as well as Putrajaya, LUAS has taken the initiative by establishing smart collaborations with government agencies and stakeholders in the management and monitoring of water resources including its development and conservation. LUAS has entered into a new understanding with JPS Malaysia in strengthening the field of cooperation and also involves increasing data sharing. The memorandum signed on 21 March 2024 specifically involved the sharing of water resources management information and additional hydrological data of 136 other telemetry stations by JPS Malaysia. The sharing of data from all 280 telemetry stations can help the state government through LUAS to further strengthen the data acquisition for the purpose of monitoring water resources such as water level and dam capacity, rainfall rate, water level and river flow rate. Thus, helps the decision-making process and improves every action taken in regulating water resources based on the current situation to ensure that the quality and quantity of the state's water resources are at an optimal level. At the same time, this understanding can ensure optimal monitoring of the quantity and quality of water resources to ensure optimal use of existing water resources in rivers and ponds as well as control of dam water discharge for raw water supply for 34 faces of water supply especially in the face of the El-Nino phenomenon and climate change.
