ABOUT LUAS
The establishment of the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) started from a Cabinet directive in July 1997 which asked the Ministry of Agriculture, then the Selangor State Government to study the proposal to establish a body to manage rivers and water resources in an integrated manner by taking Sungai Selangor as a pilot project and Sungai “ Thames ”in the United Kingdom as an implementing model. In this regard, the coordination of roles and jurisdiction between state and federal government agencies has been made to ensure that there is no duplication of functions and responsibilities as well as to smooth the running of this body. Then LUAS was established with the approval of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly which convened on April 9, 1999. The establishment of LUAS is complemented by an enactment, the Selangor Water Management Board Enactment 1999.

COURTESY VISIT FROM THE TERENGGANU WATER RESOURCES AUTHORITY (LAUT)
8th January 2025, Wednesday - LUAS (Selangor Water Management Authority) welcomed a courtesy visit from Terengganu Water Resources Authority (LAUT) to the LUAS headquarters. The agenda for this meeting included sharing information and experiences between LUAS and LAUT regarding state water resource management, particularly the Zero Discharge Policy (ZDP) initiative currently being implemented in Selangor through the Selangor State Licensing Regulations for Return Water Discharge and Entry or Release of Waste and Pollutant Materials 2024.The delegation from Terengganu was led by Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Tun Ahmad Faisal Bin Tun Abdul Razak, Deputy State Secretary (Development) / Director of the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) Terengganu, along with Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Ir. Dr. Haji Nasehir Khan Bin E.M Yahaya, Director of the Water Quality Laboratory, National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) and a Board Member of LAUT, Pn. Safura Binti Mad Juhari, Director of LAUT, PTG Terengganu, and LAUT staff.This courtesy visit aimed to gain insights and exposure from LUAS regarding the implementation of ZDP, with the intention of applying similar initiatives in Terengganu. LUAS shared details about ZDP, which primarily aims to encourage relevant premises to reduce the quantity of effluent discharge and to promote efforts for wastewater reuse.LUAS expressed its gratitude to LAUT for their willingness to engage in this discussion and sharing session. It is hoped that this collaborative relationship will bear fruitful results and benefit the state, its people, and water users.
