COMMITTEE OBJECTIVE

To plan and monitor river conservation and development programs in Selangor.

  1. To plan activities or programs in conserving and improving the quality of river water in the State of Selangor;
  2. Monitor the implementation of River Development and Conservation programs such as the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) Sungai Klang project by LLSB (a subsidiary of MBI);
  3. To plan public awareness programs and promote river conservation such as the implementation of the Qua-Qua Program which involves monitoring the quantity and quality of rivers from physical, chemical and biological aspects among school students and others;
  4. To plan tree/mangrove replanting programs in strategic areas for the purpose of ecosystem conservation;
  5. Encourage the active involvement of the District and Land Office (PDT) and Local Authorities (PBT) in implementing the Selangor Coast and Sungai Angkat Program administered by LUAS;
  6. Encourage the active involvement of stakeholders such as NGOs and local communities in river conservation studies or programs; and
  7. Monitor the implementation of river conservation programs by stakeholders /communities whether involving the development of environmentally friendly infrastructure /goes green to improve water quality or eco-tourism.

The Task Force Committee is responsible for controlling pollution along the river through the following actions:-Carry out scheduled inspections in an integrated, systematic and continuous manner at factories, sewage treatment plants, earthworks activities, landfills and other sources of pollution that have been identified;Ensure the level of pollution and target effluent discharge to reach Standard A set especially in the downstream and upstream parts of the inlet;Propose follow-up actions and appropriate measures to address the issues that have been identified;Carry out enforcement actions including the issuance of warnings, compounds, fines, prosecution and others; as well asProvide an integrated database for river basins.The objectives of the Task Force are to manage:-Local pollution by factories (whether licensed or unlicensed) and wastewater treatment plants; as well asWidespread pollution caused by earthworks, land development, construction activities, sand mining and quarrying, landfills, agricultural areas, livestock farms, abattoirs, wet markets, workshops and others.
