COMMITTEE OBJECTIVE
The main objective of this committee is to coordinate and monitor activities in the River and Coastal Basins in accordance with the IRBM and ICM Plans to ensure the smooth implementation of LUAS functions as contained in Section 6, LUAS Enactment 1999 and the implementation of section 46 (1) Integrated Management Plan.
River and Coastal Basin Task Force.
The River Basin Task Force was established on 5 March 2008. The Task Force Committee is responsible for controlling pollution along the river through the following actions:-
- Carry out scheduled inspections in an integrated, systematic and continuous manner at factories, sewage treatment plants, earthworks activities, landfills and other sources of pollution that have been identified;
- Ensure the level of pollution and target effluent discharge to reach Standard A set especially in the downstream and upstream parts of the inlet;
- Propose follow-up actions and appropriate measures to address the issues that have been identified;
- Carry out enforcement actions including the issuance of warnings, compounds, fines, prosecution and others; as well as
Provide an integrated database for river basins.
The objectives of the Task Force are to manage:-
- Local pollution by factories (whether licensed or unlicensed) and wastewater treatment plants; as well as
- Widespread pollution caused by earthworks, land development, construction activities, sand mining and quarrying, landfills, agricultural areas, livestock farms, abattoirs, wet markets, workshops and others.
